Toronto FC Travel To Chicago

Toronto FC has slowly dropped in the Eastern Conference standings and is currently tied for fourth place with New England at 34 points.

With four games left on the schedule the Reds enter this weekend’s matchup on the road against the Chicago Fire (10-6-10) in the Windy City and two points out of the final playoff spot. Although TFC (9-10-7) has been inconsistent most of this season, they only trail the Fire by six points.

Being on the road is not something the team wants to do with this tight playoff race at the end of the season. They have played four of their last five games on the road. Toronto’s record in those four matchups is 0-3-1. This problem can be credited to their inability in scoring goals, they have been held scoreless for 416 consecutive minutes away from BMO Field.

The difficult road stretch includes a 2-0 loss to Chivas USA on July 22nd, a 0-0 tie on July 29th against Seattle, a 1-0 loss to Colorado on September 5th and a 2-0 loss to Los Angeles last weekend on the 19th.

“We’ve made it difficult for ourselves,” said forward Ali Gerba in a press release. “Every game is an important game for us, and in our next game we have to get a result. We have no choice at this point.”

Midfielder Dwayne De Rosario missed out practice this week until this past Thursday with an undisclosed injury, said that the team is responsible for not getting better results in each match.

“The results were in our favor, obviously we didn’t so much to help ourselves,” De Rosario said in a press release. “Teams kind of did us a favor with their results, and with a win or a tie in L.A. we could’ve closed the gap even more. We definitely have a tough task playing Chicago at home.”

Toronto will be without forward Fuad Ibrahim who has a groin injury. Midfielder Carl Robinson and defender Adrian Serioux are questionable with an ankle injury and neck injury respectively.

For the Fire they will be without midfielder John Thorrington who is suffering from a groin injury. Midfielder Cuauhtemoc Blanco is questionable with a hamstring strain.

The last time these clubs met was on May 16th at BMO Field with the Fire winning 2-0. Goals from Josh Rolfe and Brian McBride put Chicago ahead on the road.
