In a continuation of my series of interview with newly drafted Revolution rookies, I had the privilege of talking to the Revs’ second round pick, Seth Sinovic of Creighton University. Here’s what he had to say.
Going into the draft, who were the teams looking at you? Did you have any idea about the Revs possibly drafting you?
Going into the draft I had really only heard of interest from one team from my college coach, so I really didn’t know what to expect. To be honest I hadn’t even thought about New England drafting me, but I was ecstatic to be drafted by a team that has had the success the Revolution has had.
Why do you think Steve Nicol drafted you? Do you know anything about his style/tactics?
I think as a left back the coaches saw that I have a lot that I can bring to the game. I think I am very sound defensively and at the same time I have the ability to keep the ball and go forward. I don’t know too much about his tactics but it’s obviously impressive how successful he has been in his tenure with the Revolution and I’m excited to see what I can learn from him in the upcoming year.
Besides for the Revs, how do you transfer your skills from the college game to the MLS?
I think adjusting to the speed of play quickly in the MLS will be the best way to transfer my skills from college to the next level.
As a left back, you’ll most likely fit into a back line already with two young players, Kevin Alston and Darrius Barnes. Do you know anything about the two? Do you think experience will be a factor?
I know that both of them contributed quite a bit to the team last year and did very well. I actually had the opportunity to play against Kevin in college and I know first hand how good of a player he is. I think having two young players who were in a similar situation as me last year will be a huge help as far as adjusting to the lifestyle it takes to be a successful MLS player.
What about your attacking style of play, does that continue in the professional ranks?
I think my attacking style can continue at the professional ranks. Again, adapting to the speed of play will make a big difference my success at the next level.
What will fans and players remember mostly about you after watching you play?
I think fans will notice my work ethic more than anything when watching me play.
Lastly, how does it feel to be a part of the Revs organization and the MLS? Are there any near future or far future plans for you?
It feels unbelievable to be apart of the MLS and the fact that I was selected by an organization as successful as the Revolution makes it all the better. My near future plans are to be as successful as I can be with the Revolution and hopefully stay with the team for years to come.
