Dutch coach Frank Rijkaard has left Turkish giants Galatasaray by mutual consent, as confirmed by the club earlier today. Rijkaard joined the Instanbul club in June 2009 after leaving Barcelona in 2008, and guided Galatasaray to a 3rd place finish in last year’s Turkish Super Lig.
After a disappointing 2009-2010 campaign, Galatasaray failed to qualify for the Europa League group stages after losing a two-legged play-off against Ukrainian club Karpaty Lviv in August. Rijkaard leaves Galatasaray as they sit in 9th place in the league table.
Rijkaard is being heavily linked with the job at Liverpool, as Roy Hodgson’s side continue to struggle, most recently highlighted by a 2-0 defeat against rivals Everton this past weekend.
