The Colombian website LigaPostobon.com is reporting that Jose “Pepe” Moreno has rejected an offer to join the New England Revolution. The Revs announced the loan signing last week, but it appears the player has done an about face and rejected the offer.

According to the story, the striker will remain with Once Caldas in Colombia.

Apologies, this is a rough translation from the website report:

Although Moreno confirmed that the offer was tempting MLS economically, the option to shine at Once seduces him more. He even rejected offers to return to Millos and play with Junior. “The proposals on those teams were better, but I want to be calm and comfortable here,” said the man born in Santander de Quilichao, who denied that the relationship with coach Paez Pompilio is not the best. “The technician will appreciate and respect him a lot. If there was bumping, and were in the past. He’s the boss and I complied decisions.”

There’s no official statement yet from the Revolution, so this story remains unverified at this point. If true, it’s a blow to New England’s attempts to strengthen their attack ahead of the season, not to mention embarrassing since the club has already announced the deal to the public.

UPDATE (2/8/11 12:37pm): The Revolution addressed the Moreno situation on Twitter saying he signed his contract last week.
